Meet Ms. Chan
Welcome to the House of Chan! Owner, Erika Chan, named the business after the home in which her Chinese grandparents raised their 7 children during the 1950’s and 60’s in Visalia, CA. Erika’s passion is helping students build academic confidence in Math and ELA through engaging lessons and an emphasis on valuing mistakes. Ms. Chan, as she’s known to her students, is a California credentialed teacher with 15 years of classroom teaching experience and currently teaches 6th Grade at Mountain View Elementary School. House of Chan Tutoring is her “Tiny Classroom,” and she looks forward to working with any student who needs support or acceleration.
MARyann brensel
Mrs. Brensel is a retired kindergarten teacher who also taught up to the middle school grades. She was a reading specialist for Tulare County Office of Education, where she specialized in teaching students with dyslexia. She has a gift for compassionate teaching, and she deeply cares for her students.
Gina bahrenburg
With over 20 years of teaching experience, Mrs. Bahrenburg has a deep passion for education, travel, and lifelong learning. She holds a master’s degree in Integrated Arts from Lesley University and a Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential from Chico State. Through a specialized concurrent program, she earned both her general education and special education credentials, equipping her with a broad range of teaching skills.
Gina’s love for teaching has taken her across the globe. As an international school teacher, she has taught in Malaysia, China, the Dominican Republic, and Saudi Arabia, gaining invaluable experience working with diverse students and cultures. She has a background in literacy instruction and has taken additional coursework in math.
Now rooted in her local community, Gina enjoys volunteering at Oak Grove Elementary School, where she supports students across multiple grade levels. She is also a proud mom to a high school freshman and a third grader at Oak Grove.
In 2017, Gina was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer, and was given just months to live. Over seven years later, she continues to defy the odds with resilience and optimism. Her journey has reinforced her belief in perseverance, adaptability, and the power of education.
Gina brings warmth, experience, and a global perspective to her teaching, and she is excited to support students in their learning journeys.
jillian fifield
Miss Fifield is a senior at El Diamante High School with a passion for learning and helping others succeed. She specializes in AP Environmental Science, AP Calculus A/B, and AP English Language, as well as grade-level math and English.
Jillian understands the challenges students face and enjoys breaking down complex topics into simple, easy-to-understand concepts. With a patient and supportive approach, she strives to build confidence and help students reach their full potential. She looks forward to guiding and encouraging students on their academic journey.
Erica galindo
Mrs. Galindo brings a wealth of experience in education, counseling, and child development to her work with students. Originally from Texas, she has lived in various parts of the United States and has had a diverse professional career. She holds an undergraduate degree in Child Development and Family Studies and a Master of Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Erica’s professional background includes working as a preschool teacher, a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), and an instructional aide in reading. She has served as an individual and family therapist, a bereavement counselor for children and families in hospice care, and a mental health professional in schools—collaborating with students, teachers, and families to ensure student success. She currently provides reading intervention services to students at a K-8 school.
Her passion for literacy and supporting diverse learners grew from her experience as a parent. When her son struggled with reading, she took it upon herself to learn more about different learning styles, particularly Dyslexia. This journey led her to extensive training in the Science of Reading, and in August 2024, she became officially trained in the Orton-Gillingham method.
Erica is committed to helping students build confidence in their reading abilities, using research-based methods to meet them where they are and support their growth. With her warm and compassionate approach, she strives to make learning an empowering and positive experience for every student.
Mrs. Dahlenburg is a dedicated educator with over 30 years of teaching experience. Throughout her career, she has taught a wide range of grade levels, including TK through 5th grade, and has provided Reading Intervention support for 3rd and 4th graders. Her expertise also extends to Special Education and Resource support for students in grades 1-6. Even in retirement, she remains committed to education and continues to support students in their academic growth.
Ellen has a strong passion for teaching math, reading, and writing, and she strives to make learning an engaging and enriching experience. A lifelong learner herself, she values curiosity and continuous growth. In addition to her extensive teaching background, she enjoys reading, has a unique ability to read and write upside-down, and is an avid sports enthusiast.
With a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to student success, Ellen looks forward to guiding and supporting learners on their educational journey.
